Studio G Architects joined Mayor Michelle Wu, Heading Home, and project partners to celebrate the ribbon cutting at 37 Wales Street in Dorchester—a significant milestone in the effort to provide safe, dignified, and permanent housing for families exiting homelessness.

Located on a 10,000 s/f lot on a residential street, the project involved the demolition of a vacant structure and regrading of the site to reflect the street’s natural slope. The new four-story building includes 20 family-sized apartments, first-floor common spaces, and an on-site office for Heading Home staff to provide case management and supportive services. All apartments are targeted to extremely low-income families earning at or below 30% of the Area Median Income—addressing one of the most critical housing needs in Boston and Massachusetts.

“This project exemplifies what’s possible when we pair affordable housing with supportive services,” said Danielle Ferrier, CEO of Heading Home. “Families now have not only a roof over their heads but the stability and community they need to thrive.”
Mayor Michelle Wu praised the project as part of the City’s commitment to housing solutions: “The Wales Street project shows how we can use every tool we have to create homes, strengthen neighborhoods, and support families working toward a better future.”
Studio G Principal Gail Sullivan, FAIA, emphasized the importance of design in shaping outcomes: “We’re proud to work with Heading Home to create homes that are both beautiful and healing—designed to help families recover, rebuild, and belong.”
At its core, 37 Wales Street reflects what’s possible through collaboration—turning a neglected site into a beacon of hope, stability, and sustainability for Boston families.
