Banker & Tradesman invited Studio G Managing Principal Gail Sullivan to share her thoughts on the Cape Cod affordable housing crisis.
“Tackling Cape Cod’s Housing Crisis Through Community-Centered Design” outlines Studio G’s efforts to resolve Cape Cod’s housing crisis through community centered design. Our 46-unit affordable housing neighborhood, the Residences at Lawrence Hill, is under construction and expected to be complete early next year and will provide families of all ages with safe, affordable housing and a sense of community.
Studio G also recently completed a master plan for the 21-acre Maurice’s Campground site, which envisions mixed-income affordable rental and homeownership opportunities for year-round residents, including municipal and other workers, and housing for seasonal workers who contribute heavily to the Cape’s economy.
Gail writes, “These projects, while distinct in scale and timeline, share a central principle: housing is about more than shelter. It’s about delivering community: a sense of place and belonging, and access to schools, jobs, transportation and nature. As we design for the Cape, we’re also contributing to a broader conversation: what does it really mean to create a livable, equitable community?”
