Architecture 2030 and the International Living Future Institute have recently released independent programs to promote Net Zero Carbon in buildings, which is a critical step in reducing greenhouse gas emissions from the built environment. While the two programs are slightly different, both allow for on-site and off-site renewable energy to meet Zero Carbon certification. On and off-site generation are typically necessary for larger, urban buildings and those with energy intensive uses where there is typically not enough roof or land space to accommodate enough solar panels. A highly efficient building is of course a required first step in achieving these goals.
