Studio G Architects has been recognized with an Outstanding Project Award by LEARNING BY DESIGN magazine for its design of Florence Roche Elementary School in Groton, MA.

The award was announced as part of the Fall 2025 Architecture and Interior Design Awards of Excellence, where the project stood out among 75 national submissions for its exemplary commitment to inclusive, sustainable, and future-focused design.

The new Florence Roche Elementary is the result of close collaboration between Studio G Architects, the Groton-Dunstable Regional School District, the Town of Groton, the Massachusetts School Building Authority, and local stakeholders. Informed by extensive engagement with administrators, faculty, staff, students, and families, the school’s design reflects a shared dedication to equity, innovation, and Universal Design for Learning (UDL).

UDL principles shaped both educational and architectural strategies, resulting in flexible “learning neighborhoods” that support collaboration, exploration, and individualized learning. Each neighborhood features breakout rooms, open project areas, and quiet zones to foster creativity, independence, and sensory regulation. First-floor collaborative project areas extend directly into outdoor learning spaces, while shared facilities such as the Media Center, STEM Lab, and Art and Music Rooms are centrally located for accessibility across all grades.

“We are proud to announce that Florence Roche Elementary has been recognized as an Outstanding Project by LEARNING BY DESIGN,” said Gail Sullivan, Managing Principal at Studio G Architects. “This honor reflects a truly collaborative effort to create a space that celebrates inclusion, inspires curiosity, and prepares students for the future.”

The Outstanding Project Award highlights design attributes that serve as models for PK-12 and higher education facilities nationwide. Florence Roche Elementary stands as a benchmark for inclusive, resilient, and community-centered design, setting a new standard for how learning environments can support every child while adapting to evolving educational needs.
